When the exiled Latvian community arrived in England, after a few years it was necessary to find a
centre that would bring together the Latvian community both physically and spiritually. A search was
begun for an appropriate building, and after an exhaustive search, it was found. After rebuilding, the
LWF House was opened to the general public for the first time in December 1950. The LWF House can
still be found at 72 Queensborough Terrace in the centre of London, next to Kensington Gardens and Hyde
Park. As it was in the beginning, still today the LWF House is the Latvian cultural and social centre. At
the LWF House, one can find: the Latvian library which is open twice a week, Latvian folk dancing, the
Latvian choir, Latvian Sunday school, Bible study, and Latvian language courses. Also one can find other
community events as well as concerts.
